Love Is a Seesaw

A One-of-a-Kind Sea Glass & Pebble Art Celebration of Love, Support, and the People Who Lift Us Up

"A seesaw is made for two people, so when you go down, there is always someone there to lift you up."

I love that idea.

Because that's what the best relationships do.

Life isn't always going to stay level. Sometimes we're up, sometimes we're down, and sometimes we need someone beside us who is willing to lean in and help bring us back up.

That's what inspired Love Is a Seesaw.

Why Sea Glass?

There's another story hiding in the materials.

Sometimes we feel a little like broken glass.

Discarded.

Unwanted.

Maybe life has knocked a few sharp edges off us—or left us feeling like we're no longer what we once were.

But sea glass has a funny way of changing the story.

Once-broken glass can spend years being tumbled by water, sand and time. Its sharp edges gradually become soft and frosted.

And eventually, someone walking along the shore sees it and thinks:

"That's beautiful."

That's the way I think about people, too.

With time, love and the right people around us, we can become something completely different from what we thought we were.

Our experiences leave their marks.

They change us.

They soften us.

And sometimes, the very things we thought made us broken become part of what makes us beautiful.

The right person doesn't see what you've lost. They see what you've become.

That's what I wanted this piece to celebrate.

A Reminder of the People Who Lift Us Up

Whether it's a spouse, partner, best friend, parent or someone who has simply been there when you needed them most, we all need people who will reach out when we're down.

Someone who celebrates with us when we're up.

Someone who stays when things get difficult.

Someone who reminds us that we don't have to do everything alone.

That's love.

That's friendship.

That's partnership.

That's the seesaw.

Every Piece Can Be a Little Different

I don't always create this piece entirely from sea glass.

Depending on the materials available and the story I'm trying to tell, I may combine sea glass with naturally shaped stones or other found materials.

That's part of what makes each one unique.

The materials themselves may change, but the meaning stays the same:

When life brings you down, may you always have someone beside you who helps lift you back up.

And honestly, I think that's fitting.
