Some relationships are given to us.
Others become a choice.
This one-of-a-kind piece celebrates the special bond between two people who love each other. While it may have started as a mother and daughter, the meaning can be whatever relationship is closest to your heart.
It could be a mother and daughter, grandmother and granddaughter, aunt and niece, sisters, or any two people whose connection deserves to be celebrated.
The figures are created from hand-picked, naturally shaped stones, each one unique and marked by its own journey. The young woman's skirt is a beautiful washed-denim-coloured oyster shell from Myrtle Beach, while driftwood forms part of the setting beneath them. Each material brings its own character to the piece—and a little piece of another place along with it. The older woman's head is made from a stone gathered in Greece, its natural colouring creating the soft highlights in her hair. To me, those lighter markings add a beautiful hint of the wisdom that comes with a life well lived.
Sometimes the words are what make the piece.
The right saying can turn a beautiful piece of artwork into something deeply personal.
You can choose your own quote, or if you're not sure what to say, tell me a little about your relationship, and I'll help you find the words.
For example:
"When I can't reach my granddaughter with my arms, I reach her in my prayers."
Or perhaps:
"If I had a garden for every time my daughter made me smile, I'd have the most beautiful garden in the world."
Or maybe something simple:
"My mother by chance, my best friend by choice."
These are just examples. The words can be completely your own.
Because sometimes you know exactly what you want someone to feel, but you just can't find the words yourself.
That's where I can help. Would you like a quote for a beloved teacher? A going-away gift?
Nature shapes the art. You shape the message.
